DELO - CSM Bucharest on an easy ride against Metz

 CSM Bucharest  31 (17) vs Metz 26 (10)

We are relieved : Grubisic ankle sprain was minimal in the end.

Leadership from Neagu as usual but Pintea was clearly everywhere, Very influential, hence her smiley face

Our DELO is back but it is a bit of a struggle with the new EHF TV ergonomy. We got there in the end thankfully. Happy days.

Missed the first 20 mins as I was cooking on this sunny September afternoon in greater London. Last sight of summery conditions.

With 15 minutes left on the clock Metz had gone through three goals without a response, prompting a potential comeback as the scoreline read 23-18. But it would have been a travesty. CSM dominance was fairly evident.

Grubisic shouts at her valiant defence. Saves a penalty but got done by the rebound as her defence

Hardly any saves by the two French keepers, none potentially from Mrs Halter but a couple from courageous Mrs Sako. Avoiding further embarrassment for her team.

Great goal by the very kind and softly mannered number 14 Alexndrina Barbosa (14-8).

It's now 16-10 on 28 mins:  oh no it looked like Grubisic injured herself. I genuinely feared for her participation to the euro. I was surprised when I saw her back on her feet, But that was a massive relief for CSM at the restart. And the fans.

17-10 Half-Time

Pintea is everywhere and the Neagu show is up the gears.

As the scoreline deteriorates (23-15), it may turn even worse as Louise Burgaard gets a 2-minute suspension. She's definitely keeping Metz into the game creating problems for the strong Bucharest defense.

And suddenly a 3-0 for Metz but the comeback was ephemeral. 26-18 now with 14 mins left.

Carmen did not appear to have her usual playing time. I enjoyed her zig-zag Slalom into the Metz defence for goal number 27.

Another flurry of goals by inspirational legend Cristina Neagu. Epitomised by her incredible long range successful effort as  she took advantage of an empty goal for goal number 28.

Another tech glitch meant that I missed most of the game's last three minutes.

Final score of 31-26. It looked so easy at times for CSM.  I guess it's only Day One and it's always difficult to step up with the same motivation after a lot of team and personal achievements for the Metz coach Mayonnade and his players. His disappointment could be summarised when he removed one of his players masks out of exasperation in the middle of that second half. CSM are looking very strong indeed. Obviously in very eerie circumstances.
