European League as it happens Qualifying Round 2

Got a very interesting task to do and then time flew so a bit late on watching and following the Men European League Round 2 qualifying this Tuesday. Not all the games can be watched but the live ticker to the rescue. Almost.




Belenenses - Aguas Santas Milaneza 20-23  Belenenses reduced the deficit in a tenacious second half to make it a more compelling game in a couple of days.

Irun - Kolstad  Nordic flair making it difficult for Bidasoa. Aupa Irunea works as a small goal difference is growing early in the second half.  Surely not the same refs as FTC ladies at home? Perhaps? Bergerud in goal is having more luck. And it is getting really tight as we get near the money time. Even drawing at 25 . Aupa Irunea is no longer working ! Azkue was doing his best as he got in the end  just over 90% (10 goals out of 11 attempts). Just over 4 minutes left and a ball for +3 failed with a turnover it would appear. Kolstad kindly gave the ball away ! Now +3. 30-27 it finished. Slender lead. Tough return leg. Oops.

Chambery - FEJER Veszprem Fejer are clearly improving in the second half and Chambery only leading by 2 as we are close to the middle of the 2nd half. But Chambery appears to have found a second gear and now leading by 5. It ended 29-25. Will they be tired on Friday? Sadly we could not do any investigative work ! Happy for the Chambery friends until Friday comes !

Sporting - Silkeborg  Nordic (Danish) chocolate (?) city making it very for Sporting . Sporting emulated by Bidasoa as the first 10 mins of the 2nd half looming. Ended up much easier in the end as it finished 31-22 when it was around 13-10 at the interval. Tough ask for our Danish friends from beautiful Silkeborg.

Benidorm - Zurich  very low scoring affair ? Even the ticker seems to have stopped. Under the sunshine, extreme changes in temperature as uninsured losses? Final score to be agreed ! Not really low scoring as it finished 34-24 (18-14). Benidorm clearly likely to go through but you never know.

Alpla Hard - Butel Skopje 26-21 (11 - 8) Like Azoty Alpla did very well and it will take some undoing for. Low scoring match compared to the others. 

Steaua Bucharest - FTC Rail 33-31 (17-14) FTC is on FTC time on both sides of the coin. But still in it to be fair. Interesting return leg.

Goppingen - Lemgo 28- 24 (12-12) How come two German teams played each other? Goppingen is having a good season and the more matches the ensuing benefits. Interesting return leg.



Kristianstad  - Aarhus 31- 32 (15-18)   All to play for but Aarhus just a tiny advantage. 

Savehof - Montpellier 24 - 24 (9-11)  Montpellier had the better conversion rate and more time short of players and yet came out unscathed.

Azoty Pulawy - Nexe 32-26 (16-12) Azoty were clearly the surprise package as we expected the Croatian outfit to get the better. Polish side hot seat right now. 

Kwidzyn - Flensburg  25 - 39 (12 - 21)  What a controlled performance by Flensburg. Gulf in quality perhaps?

That's it the group stage draw for the EHF European League is at our fingertips with today's additional qualified teams in green Aguas Santas Milaneza - Belenenses  3 ahead on low scoring  Aguas should go through but not likely to be the most attractive match.
