EHF 2022 Day 2 and Day 3 A superb Spain win and other stories

17h

Germany - Belarus

The Belarus team fulfilled my expectations and it was a good game to follow and Germany came back from 5 goals down in the middle of the first half. Belarus team was toe to toe with Germany until 5 mins before the match ended. In the money time the German shot conversion rate improved and Wolff made a vital penalty save after Wiencek got his three 2 min marching orders.

19h30

Austria - Poland

Portugal – Iceland

Missed the evening matches as I was working and then healthy time as it was time for a bit of tidy up and also realized the outstanding Molineux things

Ukrainian keeper makes a brilliant save

Ludo brilliantly on the horizontal dive 3-1 4’

Romain responds to the Voineasque Horiha goal 4-2 5’40

Kentin missed his shot and the Ukraine shortened France advantage 4-3 7’

Biegler plan is working so far

Romain superbly scores 6-3 9’

Great counter put away by Kasai 6-4 10’

Hugo keeps his 7-meter throws where he left them two days ago.

Ukrainian keeper starting to read the shots from France

Not good if Romain is injured

Briet first goal first touch 8-4 12’

Kasai penalty saved by Gerard

Hugo Descat delivers after a good pass by Kentin but the Ukraine counter attacks very quickly 9-5 14’

Melvin scores a nice one with a dummy 10-5 15’

France getting over-confident. Dangerous period.

Valou finds the bottom corner in a voluptuous manner 11-6 17’

Vincent Gerard conceded an easy one for a change

But Thibaut responded 12-7 18’

Hugo flies and makes up for a previous miss 13-7 19’

But Hugo missed twice as their keeper read it well

And Vincent made sure no goal conceded

Artemenko follows Kasai in lightning counter attacks 13-8 21’

Minne finds the top corner at the right speed with one additional player 15-8 23’

Vincent finds the post from an empty net.

Blissful pass and its now 15-9 25’40

I had rather watch Spain Sweden live and then I can watch Serbia Croatia tomorrow

Twice Kounkound on the line and the steals of no effect

Nahi read it and steals the ball. He scores with aplomb 17-10 28’30

Interesting fact about the faulty substitution. 17-11 at half time

Horiha gets his early goal again 17-12 30’30

Schwenker by Horiha and Romain gets 2 minutes 18-13 32’

Ilchenko gets the cheeky goal 19-14 33’

The video stopped working again as Horiha gets two minute I would have thought

Justice that Hugo got his shot saved because Benoit had touched the ball illegally

Their keeper saved brilliantly from Benoit. He redeemed himself with a steal

There is no foul. It should be a France ball and instead later Benoit gets two minutes

Well saved by Wesley. We needed this.

Good pass to Ludo and easy goal 21-14 38’

Tilte powerfully scores 21-15 39’

Superb Ludo with deft touch 22-15 40’

Two translators for Biegler

What a whipped pass to Hugo by Valou 23-15 41’

Zalevski got a bit of luck on this one 23-16 42’

Change to a 6-1

Great Wesley save

Too generous a 7-meter 23-17 44’

Melvin underneath the keeper’s leg but Burzak responded

Great release and Valou took his chance very well 28-18 48’

Too hasty a pass. Ouch.

Change in keeper by the Ukraine

Speedy Benoit fires into the top corner 29-18 50’

Acrobatic Wesley, very funny!

Nicolas scores a lovely line play goal 31-18 52’

Nahi was allowed to stay on court! Interesting one

Wesley wanted to keep the ball!

Turchenko scores two additional ones within a minute or so 36-22 58’45

36-23 in the end

19h30

Slovenia - Denmark

Croatia - Serbia

Spain - Sweden

Norway – Russia

Spain trailing 4-2 to Sweden after 6 minutes

Wanne wanna do it well after Garcia had delivered a sweet KEMPA ball for Fernandez, 3-5 8’

Good reaction by Antonio and its all square 5-5

A player short and Fernandez puts Spain in front but not for long as Gotfridsson scores in a deserted defence.

Rodrigo unable to make any decent save at the minute. Surprising really.

Rodrigo heard me as he made his first significant save

Fernandez squaring it on 8 as he has a lot of space on the wing.

That’s it! Rodrigo is in the match. Spectacular one!

Quick handball vs passing game!

Spain now leading by two 13-11 21’

Carlsbogard underneath the crossbar 14-13 25’30

Time flew by

Sole gets Spain some breathing space with a delicious wing goal and Joan puts additional spin on the lead.

A lot of Spanish fans in the arena.

Palicka got annoyed by the deflected goal by Joan 17-13 27’

Handball is joyous. More than football!

Rodrigo lovely save with his right leg.

Gurbi defence avoids number fifteen after Gedeon was denied by Palicka 17-14 at the break

Sweden back to within one after 97 seconds in the second half 17-16

Palicka great save on Fernandez but Maqueda made sure the 2-goal advantage is restored

Wanne goes under the radar and scores a lovely one

Aleix cooly scores from the 7-meter spot 19-17 34’30

Quick back-pass by Joan and Fernandez is delighted with himself as Spain increases their lead 20-17 35’

Superb line play by Wanne 21-19 37’

Superb full stretched leap as defensive prowess by Sweden

But Joan is keen to punish 22-19 38’

Aleix was almost inside when he released the ball. Fine margins.

Carlsbogard goal was impressive 23-21 41’

Top keepers talking to their helping posts

What a delightful pass to Wanne. A Chambery player told us that Wanne was his role model and all the Flensburg fans are well aware. 23-22 43’

An easy Joan goal to MR P disappointment 24-22 44’

Pinch a ball and its 25-22 in a flash 45’

Why the ball is given back to Sweden when GG had the ball?

Mistaken identity and penalty converted by Wanne 25-23 46’

Ekberg did not miss the easy counter attack 26-25 48’

KEMPA by Angel but Palicka could not palm it away 27-25 49’

Wanne got the better of Corrales. He is on 100%. 27-26 50’

Gomez fires one out of nothing as the defence got paced out 28-26 51’40

One missed opportunity for Wanne but he did not have a shot so he is still on 100%.

So annoying those cancelled flights! This match is nail-biting and class.

Wanne is no longer on 100% as the spin was too heavy.

Change in keepers on both sides

28-27 55’

What a missed pass by Sweden after Tarrafeta big miss

Joan gets a key goal, his number 8 29-27 56’40

Then Gonzalo made a big save

Tarrafeta adds number 30. 3 goals ahead with just over 2 mins left!

And he scores another one 31-28 59’

Job well done!

AGADOU - Even Gonzalo invites himself to the party.

Gurbi gets number 32. It ended 32-28.

Ana Gros told us that Russia beat Norway. I watched Croatia v Serbia past midnight. The first half was quite exhilarating. The second half was less enticing and in the end Croatia prevailed. The young keeper replacing Pesic did the job. Lucin and Cupic pulled the trigger in the money time.

This Sunday morning watching Slovenia v Denmark and probably Norway v Russia !
