Germany 2019 - Day II France edges past Brazil and entertaining draw (Serbia-Russia)
On a wet evening in Berlin we got to the accreditation center full of expectations. I soon realized that being a photographer was somewhat more difficult than being a fan. I got a lighting issue to resolve
Also as France got very very nervous I saw my pictures becoming blurry and I got extremely worried and sad. It is a learning curve. Early days ! But please do not disturb the amazing fellow photographers.
It is nice to see familiar faces around the arena, be it in the media and amongst the supporters and players.
Day II - Secondly, France edges past Brazil in a very cagey encounter where Vincent Gerard saved the day
We are now off to a guided visit of Berlin so I have to get myself ready as it still looks like we are going to have a rainy morning. And obviously I do not have any small umbrella with me. Berlin is a city full of tragedies and I wasn't to be the biggest fan of our guide. She did warm to us a little bit near the end of the visit. I could have asked her whether The Life of Others was indeed filmed in the city.

And they will be so motivated. This is the same 'start' as in France's WM 2017. Brazil almost created a massive upset.

There is a short period in this match where Cyril played. I really enjoy talking to him at all the Euro and World Championships he was included into the French team.
It is very emotional when players get to motivate one another
Super Ludo (ie Ludovic Fabregas) asks the fans and the referees whether they are ready. Because he is definitely ready for the battle. And he immediately creates 'spaces' in the Brazil defence for the French offensive phases. As per the picture below it also suits him like a 'denim' to use a subtle play on words.
Ludo also has to close 'spaces' within the French lines. He is everywhere. He gently reminds the opposition that they should not go through. He can leave the line player on his own
Despite Ludo's heroics, the effectiveness in defence is as frail as the lines in the image below

And some of the attacks between right back and the winger were far too easy at times

We do need to take the Brazilian defense off guard. Can Lucho create those opportunities?
French supporters in Berlin are getting ready and are behind the team at each and every opportunity. They even wave at their little Titi or little Napoleon who has become their photographer in Berlin.
I love the way how they all get so excited. The French fans are well up for it despite the German fans in Berlin hoping for a Brazil upset. Even when a phone call may disturb them !
But they can be very nervous
Kenni often smiles. He knows he is gifted. He obviously speaks German fluently. And no doubt for the ladies he is good-looking. We spent one very entertaining afternoon with his Dad (Pascal Mahe) on a visit to Krakow town center back in January 2016. His Dad was a legend and he remains so humble. That was truly special.

Guillaume Gille stands out as he appears optimistic and often has a smile on his face
Our Man of the Match is Dibirov for the Serbia - Russia earlier. And so was the IHF decision. He had 12 goals out of 13 attempts. He also scored two goals in less than a minute to clinch a draw.
A fascinating draw, it was. It finished 30-30 because the keepers hardly made any save. It felt like a defeat for Serbia as they led for most of the match and were leading by 2 goals with around 2 minutes left on the clock.
Will Russia play a game of two halves ?
There was a fight for every ball. Both teams played better than they did in Croatia last January.
And Nenad looked confident and relaxed
Stan was making sure the spectators were also up for it
And yet Dibirov saved the day for a growing in confidence Russian team.
